MIDWEEK MUSIC 001
The Reset mothership makes another turn. This is an ongoing music series, sound tracking your week every single Wednesday.
I once asked a girl I was dating to refer to me as ‘Playlist Papi’ …it didn’t end well...
Safe to say, life partners wasn’t on the cards. Awkward silences during dinner aside, I make playlists. A lot of playlists.
I built one for the shower, one for when I run, one for when I’m wearing linen trousers and want to feel like uncle on holiday doing up ‘sunshine sexy’…
I make a lot of playlists.
Sharing the songs I’m drowning in this week and every week from here on out is the mission. So with that, this is MM001. A bite sized drop every Wednesday I’m calling Midweek Music.
Three songs, three moments from my week in audio form that I’d love to share with you… so, to the music:
From the 2024 album ‘Since Winona’, Alex Banin’s “…Cont’d“ is one of those songs you hear, like, then reload. By the third listen, it’s on every one of your playlists, and you’re sending it to your ex. I’m not crying, you are.
Goldlink has one of those distinctive voices, so much so, certain songs are forever attached to the place you first shook a leg to his work. In my case its the song “Crew” and the summer of 2017 which are now forever connected. Don’t ask.
The Diaspora album followed with African finger prints across every visual and beat. Remember hearing the Juls produced ‘U say’ featuring Tyler The Creator for the first time? I do. I spat out my malt. Goldlink is back and naked on the album cover. Fair play to the geezer, if I made this record, I’d be man spreading on the subway with a bluetooth speaker, blaring my damn new album. Welcome back brother.
Chiminyo makes mood music. Typing that makes me feel gross, but it’s facts. No lies were typed, told or fabricated. NRG4 is one of those albums you throw on when hosting the dinner party to sound grown up, while still being capable of pulling off sneakers. Sonder is a stand out, but the entire record is worth a listen. Do it…
That was your MM001. Three very different songs, three days into another week… Please share with someone who’ll appreciate the audio sweeeeetness.
Noticed you didn’t even mention the follow to Diaspora 😅I guess nobody likes that particular moment in time. This new album, was surprisingly, very good!
