Sometimes, a fan just isn’t enough. Sometimes, the beauty of our historical city is outgunned by a heatwave rendering our unmodernised brick and mortar torture chambers toothless. Sometimes, AC. For the love of god, upgrade everything to AC.
We’ll never learn. Every summer, I join the London chorus of complaints yet here we are. Sweating out our linen, slapping about in flip flops. At least music sounds better in the sun…
This week, lets pretend our crappy, panic buy fans are keeping us cool, and we won’t regret complaining when the sky returns to its familiar ominous grey. First up, Sasha Keable.
With each new release, the writing becomes more personal. She’s been on a tear since 2024’s Hold up and this year is no different… that Whojiggy “why” remix though… Get your ears round ‘Feel Something’.
Next up, something for your sunset. Yep, I’m being that specific. I first heard this girl group through a shitty speaker in a corner store in Lapa, my favourite neighbourhood in Rio. I had a dance, I bought an ice water. This song has been with me since…
A few years back, I found myself at a Soulection show in Brixton Academy. Before the headliner stepped up, myself and my big bro Matthew couldn’t work out if it was the DJ or a live performance as the vocal was perfect. Better than the recording... The voice? Alex Isley. My obsession, confirmed. Recorded performance does her zero justice.
From 'Love / Art Memoirs’ in 2012 to this. I hope the world is finally catching up. Her flowers are overdue.
That was your MM004... Please share with someone who’ll enjoy the music. What song is carrying you through the heat this week?
My baby girl Alex has never had a bad song. I saw her at Village Underground last year and it was a transcendent experience. Her voice has this beautiful ethereal quality to it that just stuns each and every time. The new EP is gorgeous!
It's pretty much the opposite here in New Zealand, a lot of rain and cold cloudy days.
This new song by Kiwi artist HOPE is so good! Soulful and chilled vibes. Pūmau is a Māori word which means to be fixed, constant, permanent, true to, steadfast, faithful.
